CORONAVIRUS UPDATE: Hope in the Heart's services are still available, and have "gone online" to accommodate the requirements of the coronavirus era. This project is now taking place via Zoom. Please contact [email protected] if you would like to know more.
The Spirit of Community 2020 (in collaboration with Plymouth University School of Architecture and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund), will unite citizens of Plymouth to create, through personal narrative and empathetic creative activities, a combined vision of a compassionate community, based on participants' experiences of community spirit, and diverse needs as residents of Plymouth.
Over six workshops, from December to May, this vision and its elements will be crafted and shared with architecture students who are working to design a more compassionate city. Community members will be advisers and consultants to the students, who will incorporate our ideas in their designs. The final designs will be widely showcased with a view to influencing the future of our city.
The project will culminate in an exhibition in June at central locations and online, sharing the vision via photographs, artwork etc to represent the project and its participants.
We are hoping to create a diverse and united group made up of long-term Plymothians and other citizens who have moved to Plymouth from elsewhere, including migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. This is a mixed-gender project.
Tam will also be happy to visit and work with selected community groups, collecting stories/thoughts and facilitating activities that can be fed back to the university team as well as inviting group representatives to attend workshops and contribute to the finale event/exhibition.
