A quick, simple and powerfully effective, exercise. Please take part! Part of the exhibition will focus on the labels we have been given during our lives. These may be diagnoses, stereotypes or “other” (ie “lazy”, "fat" “difficult”, “stubborn" etc. etc. etc.) We are asking individuals to create labels out of card, ideally A5 or A6 size (see examples below). We can provide string at our end unless you wish to.
Please write on one side a label have been applied to you. On the other side you can write the truth behind the label as you would like it to be understood, the message you would like to send to the label-giver, or anything else about your label(s). These can be creatively decorated if wished, and easily posted to us if necessary.
We hope to have many labels to hang, which visitors can read, illustrating the humanity, circumstances emotions and frequent misinterpretations and injustices that lie behind the labels that can come to define us.
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you'd like the postal address to send completed labels to.
